Meet Chè Campbell

Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Chè Campbell comes from a large blended family. She is married to her loving husband, Claude, and has an 11-year-old son, Quentin, and an 11-year-old bonus daughter, Savannah.

With a career spanning over two decades, Chè has significantly impacted the Health and Human Services industry. Her current role as the Chief Health Equity Officer at BestSelf Behavioral Health is a testament to her expertise and dedication.

In addition to being a wife, mom, and full-time professional, Chè has recently launched a podcast called The C-Suite Mama, which she established in late 2023. The C-Suite Mama podcast is a unique platform that delves into the challenges and victories mothers in senior leadership roles face. Through candid conversations, Chè and her guests discuss balancing successful careers and thriving family lives while offering advice for listeners to feel empowered to excel in both arenas.

Personal Milestones

Where are you from?

Buffalo, NY

What was your first job?

I was a contact tracer for a collection agency. Lasted a month or two.

One thing most people don't know about you:

Despite always being at a social event, I'm very introverted and would rather be at home most of the time.

What is your favorite book or podcast?

Purple Hibiscus (book) and The C-Suite Mama and Gettin Grown (podcasts)

What motivates you to pursue current and new passions?

My pursuit of my current passion (and usually others) is generally creating what I wish I had available to me at certain points in my life.

What is your biggest accomplishment at this point in your life?

My biggest accomplishment at this point is manifesting the life I envisioned years ago.

What is one thing you know now that you wish you knew at 18 years old?

I wish I knew the true value of relationships of all kinds and how to determine who deserves to be in your life. I believe we don't show younger folks how to identify their own values and then choose friendships and romantic partners who align.

Professional Milestones

Is what you do now what you always wanted to do as a child?

Not at all. In 5th grade, I wanted to be a child psychologist, and from about 6th grade through about junior year of high school, I wanted to model professionally full-time (I was already modeling locally during that time).

What inspired you to go into your industry?

I have worked in health and human services for most of my career and am inspired to live my life serving others. The C-Suite Mama was created out of my desire to offer what I needed during my career journey.

Describe in one word what it's like to be a woman of color in your industry.

Empowering

Was there ever a time you faced challenges in your professional life? How did you overcome them?

Absolutely... navigating single motherhood and a job (that I was already miserable in) that wouldn't allow me to work remotely during early COVID. I relied on my supports heavily. I really had to learn how to say what I needed. While at the same time crafted an exit plan for a path forward.

What's next for you in your career?

In my career, since I am so new at my organization, I want to continue to lay a foundation and do great work to leave my mark. In my business, I am looking forward to formally releasing my career coaching program.

What advice would you give a young woman of color trying to enter or advance in your industry?

If you want to be successful in this industry, you must establish relationships. So, get to networking.

Who/what do you attribute your success to?

God, education, a supportive spouse & family, and solid relationships.

Are you involved in any organizations, associations, clubs, or groups?

  • Buffalo (NY) Chapter of The Links Incorporated

  • Women in Government Relations

  • Beau Fleuve Music and Arts Awareness Committee
