Is Your Mind is too Dirty? Try These Three Things to Clean it up!

With so many distractions and noise taking place in the world, you must achieve mental clarity to be the best version of yourself. To gain any kind of clarity, you must first declutter or clean. These three tips will help you declutter your brain so that you can earn a clearer headspace.

  1. Write EVERYTHING down - what you want to accomplish for the day, your to-do lists, EVERYTHING!

  • This has been a massive factor in helping me clear my mind. If I find myself worried or stressed about something, I literally write down all of the things that I am feeling at that moment. The law of energy tells us that energy cannot be created or destroyed; however, it can be transferred. Therefore, writing down your emotions moves the energy you are internalizing and releasing it onto the piece of paper (well, technically, I use my iPad, but you get the gist).

  • Transferring your emotions on paper helps accomplish two things:

    1. It helps you physically see what you are harboring within, which allows you to deal with your feelings more effectively

    2. It prevents you from transferring any misdirected emotions to those around you

  • Finally, to declutter your mind and avoid storing too much inside your brain, write down things you need to accomplish or need to remember to do for the day. Writing creates repetition, which helps you to remember things better. Also, being able to cross things off a list once they are complete aids your subconscious mind to continue to stay in the mode of getting things done.

2. You Need to Decompress

  • Decompressing is so essential to do at least once a day. I hear people often say that they do not have time to unwind. Decompression should not be treated as a task or something else you need to add to your list of things to do. Decompression can be simple, and contrary to popular belief, it does not need to take too much time.

  • Pick a time to decompress: Cater your decompression time to your schedule. Maybe you chose to unwind before bed or when you get home from work. Perhaps your decompression time is in the morning before you go to work or during a lunch break.

  • I tend to decompress during my lunch hour at work because it helps me break up my day and step away from work for a moment. I usually take a 20-35 minute walk and then eat for the remaining hour. I listen to my favorite podcasts or audiobooks or pray and meditate during my walk. If I cannot take a walk during my lunch, I usually read a few pages of a book or write in my journal. I do any activity that will help me transition my mental space to a more relaxed manner. As I mentioned before, decompressing does not need to take hours of your day. Decompressing can be 15-20 minutes long of listening to music, sitting down to watch TV, simply taking a walk, or prayer and meditation.

3. Clean Up Your Environment

The final thing you need to do to declutter your mind is physically clean. Clean up the space around you. Have you ever let your house get junky, and you keep putting off cleaning it up to another day? Then it's like a switch goes off in your head, and you can no longer take the site of the mess, and you start to clean profusely? If there is too much disarray around you, your mind cannot focus on one thing, which causes your mind to go into overdrive. I notice that I am the most productive and relaxed when my surroundings are organized and clean. It's because my mind is not drawn elsewhere when everything around me is intact. I can focus on what I need to focus on without any distractions. It is just as important to declutter your environment as it is to declutter your mind to gain mental clarity.

The small habitual things you do in your daily life play a part in you achieving the best version of yourself. Remember these three things, and you will go from good to greater so that you can be a GreatHer.
